You possibly know which blinds you want in your home, but it is always worth asking for advice. Not all blinds are best in certain circumstances. For example, I would not put wooden venetains in a bathroom because the wood is likely to warp.

Roller blinds have traditionally been the most common type of blind until verticals took over, but they are basically up or down. They do not really offer any control. Wood venetian blinds are growing in the popularity stakes and will probably overtake the vertical blind in a few years. The disadvantage is that the slats are thicker than fabric, so if you draw the blind up you are often left with a large “stack” of wood at the top of your window which can block the light.

Onto where to buy blinds. If you are in Milton Keynes, Flitwick or Ampthill areas then there are plenty of outlets that supply blinds at set sizes. Some people go for this option because they expect the blinds to be cheaper but let’s look more into this. First of all you give up half a day at least going to all of the outlets selling these types of blinds. You will then spend half a day fitting it unless you are experienced at this kind of work. You are likely to have compromised on colour because they aren’t made for you; they have to be held in stock. I can’t speak for them all but as the blinds are mass produced to sell at a price, the quality is often poor, and you certainly will have compromised on how well the blind fits because it isn’t made to measure. You will either have gaps or will have to spend an hour or two cutting the blind to size.

Some people I know have purchased blinds from the web, but they have never found the whole process easy. Often misunderstandings occur with measuring because there are things a professional will look out for. You have no recourse to an online supplier if your measurements are incorrect. Better to let a professional do it for you.
