If you want to make sure you get the best food at the Bahamas it’s best to take on a bit of that special island flavor. Don’t expect to get the same food you get at home! Sure, you can choose to get a cheeseburger, but it will cost you a fortune over getting something special like a lobster tail.

The Bahamians love their food. It’s not surprising at all that seafood is the preferred food of the island. They love food so much that it is the only thing offered as a major at their local college. There are people who come from all over the world just to get the knowledge of the islands for their hotel and restaurant management degree.

In fact, there are students from all over the world who go to the Bahamas just to attend school there. As far as Bahamas food goes, everything but sea cuisine has to be imported. That is the reason that a cheeseburger will cost you more.

There are many great foods in the Bahamas, as you can imagine. The most popular in the seafood family are the spiny tail lobster, conch, and grouper. You can also find things like chicken, lamb, goat, and pork if you prefer land animals. Want to know a secret? The best places to find these foods are at the smaller local restaurants. The larger ones are way too tourist focused and have Americanized food.

The queen conch is one of the many favorites on the Bahamas island. Part of the reason is because it’s a great aphrodisiac. It is partly this wishful thinking that gets it added to so many different dishes. Be careful, there is a huge problem with proper conch shell disposal on the island.

You will find conch chopped, marinated, in lime juice, in salads, and even served as a fillet. It doesn’t stop there! Bahamas conch is found in chowder, fritters, chow mien, submarine sandwiches, pizza, and so much more. Make it a fun time and try eating conch in a different way every day. It’ll be one of the best experiences of your life.

Not everyone is a seafood eater so the restaurants do try to cater to that. You can find imported meats, and some local chickens. The Chicken Souse is a real winner. Though there can be some surprising ingredients! Always make sure to ask before eating.

The drinks are another important aspect of the Bahamas life. One of the best beverages of the island is Kalik beer. This one is brewed locally and served chilled. You’ll also find a lot of great flavored rums on the island. You really can’t beat them for having a relaxing time.

It doesn’t matter what you end up eating, you’ll be glad you sampled some of what the Bahamas has to offer. You have to book your trip as soon as possible if you haven’t already!
